Animal Facts.
*Many fish have antifreeze molecules in their veins. This helps them because the weather is cold. These fish are usually translucent.
*Whales and seals keep warm by a layer of fat called blubber.
*There are very few bugs in the tundra biome.
*Many animals have shorter legs to lose less body heat than those with longer legs.
*Some of the tundra animals like grizzly bears and the ground squirrel hibernate in the cold winter.
*Small animals don't hibernate so they use the snow as insulation in their burrows and underground holes.

Plant Facts.
*Some of the plants have hairy stems to keep from freezing.
*There is not much water deep in the tundra soil so the plants roots are short.
*Tundra plants are usually very close to the ground. This is because they have a short growing season, and they need to save energy to make seeds and not grow very tall.
*The only tree that grows in the tundra is the Dwarf Willow Tree. It grows to a maximum of only 4 inches tall.

Climate.
*The tundra recieves less than 10 inches of precipitation a year. So it is like a frozen desert.
*The tundra has a short summer that last from May to July. During these "summers" the temperature only rises to about 50 degrees Farenheit. During the summers the sun shines almost 24 hours a day.
*The average winter temperature is around -30 degrees fahrenheit.
*The average summer temperature is about 45 degrees fahrenheit.
